Here's the suggestions that I got from my question about attempting a text theme. Thanks for all the help!!! Eddie Johnson said that he used ArcInfo to selecte the street names and put them into their own coverage, than added them into the ArcView project as their own theme. Jamie Shitter suggested using AVALabel, available from MapLogic. Ian Reid suggested trying "gtext.avx" since it allow you to save graphic text as a theme. Vishanth Singh also suggested "gtext.avx" and another extension, "txt2shp" which does about the same thing. Emily Stewart suggested makeing a new arc shapefile, draw the lines in the direction and place I wanted the text to go and creating a column called "name" to use with the label feature of ArcView for the lines. This approach allows you to edit the file and information to get the appearance that you want. Ed Wieland suggested copying the theme and turning the the color of the theme transparent. It looks like a text theme. This is a good shortcut, but doesn't allow you to save the text indepently. Jamie Shitter suggested using AVALabel, available from MapLogic. This is And Moncla's suggestion: "I haven't tried this in ArcView yet, but this works in Atlas. I select the road segment that has the label where I want it I save the selected road segments as a new file I then load the new road segment file on top of the original road file I set the new segment file to transparent, but leave the labels on This new segment file is its own layer (theme). _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
